Canoe and Kayak Paddling Fair
Learn how to use a canoe or kayak for free. The SD Canoe and Kayak Association will teach you how.
The South Dakota Canoe & Kayak Association will host its annual Paddling Fair on June 9 at Family Lake Park, located on W. 12th Street and the Tea-Ellis Road intersection.
The free event allows the public to “test drive” canoes and kayaks provided by members of the South Dakota Canoe & Kayak Association. Boats will be available from 1-4 p.m. Participants can try a variety of craft but are encouraged to “share time” with others. Last year more than 300 people took part.
SDCKA members will provide personal flotation devices that are required for anyone who is paddling. Some boats for children are available, but the group asks that children younger than 16 be accompanied by a parent, adult or guardian.
Jarett Bies, a member of the club, says the event is great for those who are curious about paddling sports.
