Brandon Valley Routs Washington
Last Friday night, Brandon Valley spoiled Washington's homecoming, defeating the Warriors, 56-14.
Brandon Valley improved to 4-1, while Washington dropped to 2-3. In the new ESPN 99.1/KELO-TV/KBHB high school football polls, the Lynx are No. 3, while the Warriors are No. 5.
In last week's game, the Lynx dominated the Warriors on offense, moving the ball through the air, and had a lot of fast possessions that resulted in touchdowns. On defense, Brandon Valley forced the Warriors to punt often, and created turnovers. Both the marks of legit contender for a state championship.
For Brandon Valley, quarterback Jake Comeaux passed for 182 yards and four touchdowns, while his receivers A.J. Garrow and Drew Reinschmidt combined for five scores. On the ground, Cam Holmes had 111 yards.
For Washington, Logan Raabe and back-up quarterback Justin Miller scored the lone Warriors touchdowns. Through the air, Jack Schelhaas went 6-for-11 passing for 27 yards and an interception. On the ground, Luke Reiter ran the ball 14 times for 71 yards.
Looking ahead to the rest of the season, Washington coach Chad Stadem hopes the Warriors will mature as a team. "Camaraderie is developing. The kids are learning they need each other, as team unity is where they will get their strength's. Coaches can preach it, but kids have to learn on their own, too."
On the other sideline, the Lynx want to continue to grow as a team, says coach Chad Garrow. "We hope to continue to grow as a team, as cliche as it sounds. So, by the playoffs, we hope to feel like we're at peak performance."
Brandon Valley has a bye next week, before hosting Aberdeen Central on October 11. Washington will travel to Huron next Friday.
