An elderly woman attempting to cross Sycamore Avenue in Sioux Falls was struck by an oncoming vehicle.  According to Sergeant Tommy Schmitz with the Sioux Falls Police Department, the collision occurred on Saturday November 12th at 11:48 AM, as the vehicle driven by a 50 year old resident was traveling south bound in the outside lane on Sycamore Avenue:

The female pedestrian (72 year old) entered into the lane of traffic from the curb and was struck by the vehicle.  The vehicle then left the roadway and impacted a garage structure causing major damage to the building and an unattended vehicle inside.  The pedestrian was unconscious and unresponsive for initial emergency units and was transported to (Avera) McKennan Hospital with potential life threatening injuries.

Police shut down Sycamore Avenue as authorities investigated the scene.  The investigation continues.
