Most everyone was caught off guard with last weeks announcement that the big top is coming down on the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, after nearly a century and a half run.

However, there is a bit of good news for people and families here in the Sioux Empire that love the thrill of the big top, the circus that frequents Sioux Falls each year is still going strong!

KDLT News is reporting the El Riad Shrine circus isn't going anywhere.

Declining ticket sales over the years have forced the Ringling Brothers to finally pull up stakes on their circus tent, but according to Ried Jensen, member of the El Riad Circus Committee, that is not the case with the Shrine Circus.

Jensen says, “The annual El Riad Shrine circus has really become a stable part of this community. We look forward to continuing the show for years and years to come. If we need to expand dates, expand shows or even move into larger venues it’s something we will do."

2017 will actually bring about the 76th year the El Riad Shrine has brought their fine circus to the Sioux Empire.

From animals to clowns, to acrobats, to magicians, the El Riad Shrine circus has it all. There's something for the entire family according to Jensen.

For 129 years, El Riad has been a member of the Sioux Falls community. Organizers of the circus hope to continue to make families laugh for many more years.

Circus goers don't have long to wait to see the big show once again. Tickets for the 2017 El Riad Shrine circus go on sale starting April, 1st and the three-ring fun begins April 20th.
