DWI Investigation Leads to Stolen Vehicle Arrest in Sioux Falls
A Sioux Falls police officer spotted what looked to be a stalled van over the weekend, but a closer look showed the vehicle to be moving very slowly, and an even closer look showed it had been stolen.
Lieutenant Matt Burns says the officer noticed the green minivan near the intersection of Brookings Street and North Minnesota Avenue around 10:00 p.m. Saturday, got closer and saw that the vehicle was idling up the hill.
“The officer went out with the driver, noticed there were some indications of impairment, began an investigation and found the vehicle was actually reported stolen out of Charles Mix County in South Dakota,” said Burns. “[The officer] initiated an investigation for impaired driving and the driver was arrested for DWI and some narcotics related charges as well.”
Burns says 48-year-old Artemio Miguel Palumbo of Geddes was also arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and an open container violation.
Details of the vehicle theft from Charles Mix County were not available.
