If you were one of the 1500 or so people here in the Sioux Empire that were without power until around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2016, you can thank 20-year-old Joseph Deno.

Deno is accused of crashing his vehicle into a power pole on 41st Street on Friday, causing wide-spread outages of power, internet and cable throughout sections of Sioux Falls.

According to Lt. Loren McManus with the Sioux Falls Police Department, Deno was charged with DUI and reckless driving.

The accident had such an impact on parts of the city that some Midco customers who lost their cable and internet services as a result of the crash, didn't have services completely restored until nearly 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
