Powerball mania is sweeping the country and Sioux Falls is no exception. A few short lines reported this morning from convenience stores and customer service booths. But, what's the big deal? Oh, over a half-billion dollars???? Well, that's different!

That amount is changing by the hour.

Powerball officials said that tickets were being sold at a rate of over 120,000...per minute!

I'll admit, we pooled a little money together here at the Townsquare Media building this morning, too. We can dream, can't we?

Experts, (people who didn't have to take 5th grade math over), are telling us that the odds on matching all of the numbers correctly in Wednesday night's drawing will be 1-in-175 million. Sweet.

For some reason, certain numbers come up more often than others. Can't decide on your lucky numbers? Check this out:

  • Dr. Min Su Kim teaches statistics at Souther University. Dr. Kim went back 10 years and found the top 5 numbers that have won millions of dollars for thousands of people:
  • He found that the most frequently drawn Powerball number is the number 20. It is followed by 37, 2, 31, and 35.
  • The most popular white ball is 42. It is closely followed by 16, 35, 26 and 19, according to Kim's research.

The drawing will take place tonight in the Powerball Studios in Tallahassee, Florida. The room is being kept under very close guard with multiple security cameras. The closely guarded machines and balls are locked in a vault before the numbers are drawn and only a select few are allowed inside the room during the actual broadcast.

The drawing will be held Wednesday night at 10pm (central).

Good luck, and remember if you win, I'd like a shrimp ring. They're my favorite.
