SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Sporting goods retailer Scheels has donated $750,000 to an ongoing effort to build a new community ice facility in Sioux Falls.

The gift is part of the Ice Sports Association's plan to raise $7.7 million, mostly from private sources, to build the first phase of an indoor ice complex with three sheets of ice and other spectator amenities.

Ice Sports Association president Joe Zueger says the facility will now be named the Scheels IcePlex.

On Tuesday, the Sioux Falls City Council approved $1.5 million for the new facility.

Plans are to break ground on the center in late 2013, with an anticipated opening date in the fall of 2014.
