SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - The South Dakota Department of Corrections has scheduled for Monday the execution for an inmate who killed a prison guard during a botched prison escape.

The Department of Corrections says 50-year-old Eric Robert is scheduled to die by lethal injection at approximately 10 p.m. Monday at the state penitentiary in Sioux Falls.

It's the same prison where Robert killed guard Ronald "RJ" Johnson during a failed escape attempt in April 2011. Robert was serving an 80-year sentence on a kidnapping conviction when he and inmate Rodney Berget attempted to escape the prison.

Robert pleaded guilty to the slaying and was sentenced to death.

Robert did not appeal the sentence and told a judge that if left alive, he would kill again. Berget has appealed his death sentence.
