A driver who told Sioux Falls police she was checking the contacts on her cell phone had to be extricated after she crashed her vehicle Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the 32-year-old Sioux Falls woman was northbound on Minnesota Avenue at West Sunnymede Lane shortly before 3:00 PM when her Volkswagen Beetle left the east side of the road. The driver's side door struck a tree along the boulevard and the driver was trapped.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue got her out and she was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say she was cited for careless driving.
