The sentencing of Annette Bosworth for election law violations on July 1, 2015 could seem straight forward to some with a less than surprising suspended sentence with probation and community service.

Some of the things Bosworth said keep rolling through my mind and the more I try to make sense of them, the more I can't.

Stories emerged about Bosworth addressing the court with details of a dream she had including Zombies and children eating dirt. This was confirmed with a colleague who heard it first hand in the courtroom who described her comments to be scattered and difficult to understand.

Bosworth also commented on why she was charged.  She blamed it on her campaign funds and those she hired.

Raising too much money placed a target on my head, sooner than I was ready for.  In my dream of replaying this last chapter of life, I would raise no money.  The no money version of this last two years would have left out the campaign advisers and legal consultants, they were only ever mercenaries.

Despite Attorney Marty Jackley dropping a major hint the day prior to sentencing that their recommended sentence could be altered if she claimed ownership to her part in the violation, she blamed others, disappointing Judge John Brown who called her on it.

I was hoping to hear about remorse from you.  I instead hear the placing of blame on others.

Some situations in life just can't be resolved and apparently Bosworth's comments and actions are one of them.  What this scenario reminds me to do is teach my kids to own their mistakes, admit when they're wrong and find a way to do better in the future.  Its a reminder to me as well to admit when I'm wrong.  These life lessons are difficult in childhood to learn, but as Bosworth has demonstrated, blaming others later in life can bring even more dire consequences.
