SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Sioux Falls police say that a man faces charges after he crashed into a Minnehaha County Sheriff's patrol car.

Authorities say that one of the two deputies involved in the wreck was injured. The wreck occurred about 2 a.m. Sunday as the deputies drove south on Six Mile Road near Rice Street.

Police say a northbound Mercury Sable swerved into the oncoming lane. The deputies' vehicle was hit on the driver's side, forcing it off the road and into a ditch.

KELO-TV reports that the driver of the Sable is charged with driving under the influence of drugs, reckless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia. He and his passenger were treated for what authorities say were not life-threatening injuries.

Deputy-in-field-training Derek Gulbrandson sustained minor injuries to his left knee.
