Demi Lovato looked an '80s music video vixen -- in the best way -- at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards. Rocking a studded black motorcycle over a sparkly, sequined black A-line mini dress, the 'X Factor' judge danced and belted her heart out to her new No. 1, 'Give Your Heart a Break.'

Lovato's performance opened the 2012 MTV VMAs live musical sets in the pre-show.

The song was sped up slightly and given a more danceable instrumentation, complementing Lovato's strong, heartfelt but still poppy vocals. Drawing even more attention to that voice? Her red lipstick, which put her mouth at center stage. She mugged for the camera as her performance closed with red rose petals flying over the stage.

Possibly amping up the energy of her performance? Just before Lovato hit the stage, it was announced that she won the first Moon Man of the night, nabbing Best Video With a Message for 'Skyscraper,' her song about triumphing over adversity. Following her set, MTV's Sway got her acceptance speech, and it was just as adorbs as you'd imagine coming from Demz.

"I can't even tell you what it means to me," Lovato gushed. "I can't even believe I'm touching one of these," she said, opening herself up to a slew of "That's what she said!" jokes. "I always watched the VMAs growing up, and now I'm holding one!"
