If you are traveling by airplane for the holidays to be with friends and family but can't bare the thought of boarding your pet or leaving them to spend Thanksgiving or Christmas by themselves, the other option may be to bring them with!

That option may be fine if your pet is small enough to fit in a carrier and is able to be placed under your seat, but owners with bigger pets may need to start spending a little extra money beginning next year, and this new change may affect hunters.

Starting in March of 2016, passengers of Delta Air Lines will not be allowed to check your pets as baggage. Bigger animals will soon have to fly using Delta's cargo service. And because those larger pets will be considered "cargo", owners will be forced to pay more money to take their pets with them.

Not only does the typical cost of shipping something as "cargo" increase costs, but pet owners may have to deal with their pets not even being shipped on the customer's flight, causing a bit of an inconvenience.

Delta does acknowledge that if a pet is small enough to fit in a pet carrier under the seat, for an additional fee (but not as large as the cargo fee), pet owners can still fly with their pets.

Delta will make exceptions for certain members of the military to check their pets as baggage and customers with service or emotional support animals.
