I am so glad our schools are teaching math and science. I just wish they would also teach common sense.

Three-year-old Hunter Spanjer of Grand Island, Nebraska is deaf. And his preschool has banned him from using the sign language sign for his name, because they say it looks too much like a gun.

Hunter uses a form of sign language called Signing Exact English, where hand signals are made to mimic words. The official see sign for "Hunter" is an extended forefinger, and it does look like a finger gun.

But still. He's a deaf three-year-old kid. When he makes a gun signal he's signing his name, not threatening to shoot up his preschool.

The preschool says they have a strict zero tolerance policy for "any instrument that looks like a weapon", but they're working with the parents on a compromise.
