PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard is asking travelers to be patient on state highways as the busy Christmas and New Year's holiday seasons approach.

Daugaard is asking travelers to allow more time for the heavier traffic and for winter travel conditions. He also is asking travelers to designate sober drivers for every trip and always wear a seatbelt.

Other travel recommendations the governor is advising include carrying a winter weather survival kit, following speed limits and checking SafeTravel USA.com for road conditions.
