This week on DWTS was the dreaded and sometimes hailed Switch Up week.

This means the partnerships for one week get all mixed up based on viewer notes. In the past this has caused hurt feelings and scores plummeting, but on the other hand it has lead to some of the best scores and routines.

The latter was more of the theme last night. I thought overall the switch up gave new life to some of the contestants. The stars were doing things they never did before.

The two standouts for me were the married couple, Carlos and Alexa Penavega.

Carlos was paired with Lindsay Arnold instead of his usual partner Witney Carson. The two girls just happen to be besties and grew up together.

Carlos did an awesome quickstep, which is one of the most dreaded dances. Plus, I loved her dress. Work that fringe girl.

Then came his wife's turn on the dance floor. Alexa got paired with Derek Hough instead of her usual partner Mark Ballas. Mark is my personal fave, but even I can admit that something seems off with him this season. (Maybe it's his man bun.) Like he's into it, but not 100% or something. Or maybe their partnership just isn't working. I don't know. All I know is I try to dislike Derek because EVERYBODY loves him, but I can't. The tango he put together for Alexa was amazeballs.

It felt post apocalyptic and I thought he made great use of the extra dancers. They helped just enough, but didn't distract. So good. So good in fact that Alexa got the first perfect score of the season! In moments like that you wonder how Mark feels. Happy? Sad? Jealous? We will see next week.

Even though Paula Deen did the best dance of her short dancing career last night (Thanks to Mark) I think it is her time to go. Sorry, Paula.
