Coyotes Complete Sweep Of SDSU
VERMILLION, SD — Allie Daly and Morgan Hancock both had three RBIs, while Erica Denney pitched a complete game as the South Dakota Coyotes topped South Dakota State 7-1 on Saturday to complete the weekend sweep.
Morgan Hancock belted a three-run homerun in the third inning for her fifth of the season. Daly was 3-for-3 with two singles and a double. She had 10 RBIs over the series.
Denney allowed three hits and struck out six for her 14th win of the season. She is tied for second in the Summit League for most wins this season.
South Dakota (25-12, 8-1) never trailed in the game. Lindsey Boyd scored on a Daly single in the first to give the Coyotes the lead. Daly later started a four run rally in the third with an RBI double that scored Katie Dinning. Hancock would hit her three-run homerun in the next at-bat.
South Dakota State (11-21, 1-8) cut the lead to 5-1 in the top of the fourth off a solo homerun by Elyse Eitel, but the Coyotes would add two in the bottom of the sixth to round out scoring.
The Coyotes will continue their home stand by hosting Fort Wayne in a three-game series next weekend. Game one will be on Friday at 1 p.m. at Nygaard Field.
