Cordarrelle Patterson Likely to See More Reps for Minnesota Vikings in 2014

When Cordarrelle Patterson's workload increased last season, his production went up as well. In September and October, Patterson caught 13 receptions for 133 yards and zero touchdowns combined. In November and December, the Vikings second-year wideout hauled in 32 receptions for 336 yards and four scores.That's more than double.

Now, Patterson's workload is going to be even greater as Greg Jennings is handing over the top receiver role to the second-year wide receiver from Tennessee. Jennings discussed the move with new head coach Mike Zimmer and offensive coordinator Norv Turner.

Patterson is a versatile player who can lineup in the backfield, as a wide receiver, and can return kickoffs. He rushed 12 times for 158 yard and three touchdowns, and in the return game, he had 1,393 kickoff return yards and three scores.

It's a good move by the Vikings and as a nine-year veteran in the NFL, Jennings showed great leadership by showing promise in his fellow wideouts.

The next step, of course, is to find a consistent quarterback for Patterson. Last year, Matt Cassel, Christian Ponder, and Josh Freeman all threw to the wideout. In 2014, Cassel, Ponder, and rookie Teddy Bridgewater will all have a chance to compete for the starting job at the upcoming Vikings training camp beginning on Thursday, July 25.
