Not wearing green on St. Patrick's Day has been getting people pinched since the 1700's.

Missing out on the limited time Shamrock Shake might not get you pinched, but you may be kicking yourself for not partaking in this minty green liquid of the god's that we have been blessed with since the 70's.

The Shamrock Shake was first introduced in 1970. Rogers Merchandising in Chicago created the shake. Initially, the shake was lemon/lime flavored with vanilla ice cream, lemon/lime sherbet, and vanilla syrup. By 1973, the shake was merely a green colored vanilla shake, eliminating the lemon/lime sherbet. Then in 1983, the shake added mint flavoring and today it is still a mint shake, consisting of mint ice cream base, vanilla syrup, and milk. James Byrne, the executive artist at the firm, used a family recipe for the shake.

Almost as amazing as finding a copycat Shamrock Shake recipe was finding this pot of gold: A Throwback Thursday Shamrock Shake Commercial from 1983.

If you got a blender and a few simple ingredients you can make this thing happen.

This video takes you through a super simple copycat version of a Shamrock shake you can pull off at home year-round.

You may remember this discontinued green gem from 1980. In 1980 McDonald's introduced the Shamrock Sundae which consisted of vanilla ice cream topped with a mint green Shamrock syrup. The product was discontinued after one year due to poor sales
