Imagine, the only thing between you and a 20 degree day in December is a skimpy sweatshirt! Or, envision yourself as a child, walking to school on a snowy day in an old, threadbare, lightweight jacket; shivering as you hurry toward those school doors which seem to get farther away with every step.

Now, stop imagining. These scenarios play out in our community every winter season. Even in our city of riches with low unemployment and million dollar homes, we have people who deal daily with adversity, poverty and hunger. When these issues affect your life, having a warm coat quite often becomes an afterthought, if that.

The Kids Count Data Center had this to say about the effects of poverty specifically on children:

Growing up in poverty is one of the greatest threats to healthy child development. Poverty and financial stress can impede children’s cognitive development and their ability to learn. It can contribute to behavioral, social and emotional problems and poor health."

Mix 97-3/Results Radio/Townsquare Media have gotten together this year with our media partner KDLT-TV and Billion Motors to collect "Coats for All". Please donate new or gently-used coats to be given to the Salvation Army which will then distribute them, free of charge, to children and adults in need of a warm coat.

Please join us in this effort to make a comfortable difference in the lives of our less fortunate friends and neighbors. You will find coat drop boxes at any Billion Auto location in Sioux Falls, Worthing and Dell Rapids.
