City of Sioux Falls Burying a Time Capsule – What’s Going in It and What is Missing
The City of Sioux Falls is going to bury a time capsule at the visitor information center at Falls Park Tuesday at 2:00 PM. The capsule will be filled with things that show where we are in the year 2014 and will be opened in fifty years - 2064.
What's going into it? A lot of different stuff. There is a list below detailing everything going into the capsule. But what should go into it that isn't on the list? I have a few ideas.
Photo of the intersection at 85th & Minnesota - Will there be a Walmart there when the capsule is opened?
Snow Plow with Gate - So people know how streets were cleared before automatic melting technology.
Phonebook - Because there won't be any in fifty years.
Gas Can - This is what we used to haul the fuel for our cars and lawn mowers before everything went solar and sewer powered.
iPad - How can they not have an iPad in the time capsule? (Because even old ones are still valuable.) There are a bunch of older smartphones, but no tablets of any kind. Or even a laptop.
Flat tire on a bent wheel rim with a photo of a pothole - How else will they understand what it was like to go off-roading while on city streets in the late winter and spring?
Lock of Mayor Mike Huether's Hair - Why not? It's the most perfect hair of any mayor we've ever had, with form mayor Rick Knobe's hair coming in a close second.
