Chrysler recently announced that the company is recalling nearly 745,000 Jeep sport utility vehicles across the continental United States to repair an issue that could possibly lead to the involuntary deployment of the airbags.

This recall affects 2002-, 2003- and 2004-model Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2002 and 2003 Liberty SUVs, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In total, Chrysler will recall 744,822 vehicles to replace an airbag control module.

Investigations related to complaints of inadvertent airbag deployment in these vehicles began nearly a year ago. The results found 215 cases where the airbag involuntarily deployed, leading to 81 minor injuries.

Chrysler plans to install a supplemental jumper harness to the airbag control module free of charge customers starting in January.
