Children Rescued from Creek at Palisades State Park
The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department says an adult male was able to get to shore on his own during the Sunday afternoon incident, but a boy and girl had to be rescued. The boy suffered an ankle injury.
According to South Dakota Game Fish and Parks:
Split Rock Creek, which flows through the park, is lined with Sioux quartzite formations varying from shelves several feet above the water to 50-foot vertical cliffs. Scenic overlooks and rushing water make Palisades a popular getaway. The park is popular among campers, photographers, sightseers, picnickers, rock climbers and hikers.
The rescue took about an hour.
