The South Dakota Healthcare Association has completed their search across the state and has located who they believe to be the Centurion of the year, the oldest person in South Dakota.  Bertha Maisch-Mohr is 107 years old, born in December 1908.

Bertha is from the Hosmer and Eureka and recalls the depression era, making every penny count and skipping Christmas gifts when money was tight:

Christmas was a day, just like always.

Bertha married Theobald Mohr in 1931.  Together they had four children.   She also has 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Bertha was always working hard at home, and outside the home as a beautician.  Her independent spirit allowed her to live in her own home till the age of 97.  She now lives at the Avera Eureka Health Care Center.

Her years of gathering life experience and wisdom has brought her to the conclusion that family is most important.  Her words at the end of every gather with family is the same:

I love you now and I always will
