A good nose prevented a further tragedy. However, putting all the puzzle pieces together will be a tough task for Sioux Falls Police.

Just after 8:00 AM Monday, June 29, the smell of smoke led a man to his garage on West Coughran Court. The homeowner detected a fire in the backseat of his car.

Before the flames got out of control the victim says he was able to use water to extinguish the blaze. The investigation continues to determine the exact nature of the fire. Early indications is that the fire was deliberately started.

Officer Sam Clemens says the police report says there was no forced entry into the garage. “The side garage door had been closed, but not locked. It appears that somebody started some paper on fire in the car.”

No estimate of damage was given. Police are also short on possible suspects with this case.
