KANSAS CITY, KS --  So far, July is turning out much better than June for the Sioux Falls Canaries.

After winning just two of their last 16 games in June, the Canaries have gone 2-0 in July and have won three straight following Wednesday night's 9-6 defeat of the Kansas City T-Bones at Community America Ballpark.

Every starter collected at least one hit in a 17-hit output by the Canaries. Anthony Trajano and Nick Van Stratten each had four hits. Van Stratten tripled home two runs in the fourth innings and scored three runs, while Jared Clark and J.P. Ramirez each had two hits.

The Canaries (16-29) never trailed after Tim Pahuta doubled in the third and later scored on an error. They added two with Ramirez' single in the fourth. A four-run Birds rally in the fifth inning built an 8-1 lead. Along with Van Stratten’s triple, Nate Baumann socked his fifth home run of the year, and Cory Morales added a sacrifice fly.

Kansas City (16-29) scored five runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but Ramirez scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning for the final tally.

Alan DeRatt tossed a perfect ninth for his eighth save, helped by Trajano’s diving grab at second base to throw out Matt Padgett for the final out of the game.

Ben Moore (5-3) benefitted from eight runs of support to claim his fifth win. He allowed five runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings pitched. He walked two and struck out seven, and he leads the league with 62 strikeouts.

The Birds touched Dustin Loggins (1-2) for eight runs, seven earned, and 12 hits in five innings. Loggins took the loss in his second start of the season.

Padgett was 2-for-4 with two home runs to lead Kansas City’s offense. Kennard Jones was also 2-for-4 with a double.

The third game of the four-game series with the T-Bones is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Thursday night.
