Brie Larson and fiance Alex Greenwald have called it quits after five years together.

A source confirmed the news to People, telling the outlet the couple aren't heading down the aisle but that they "remain close." Larson, 29, and the Phantom Planet musician got engaged nearly three years ago.

"They have taken a step back from their engagement for the time being but they remain close," the insider alleged.

Greenwald popped the question to the Captain Marvel actress in May 2016. At the time, they'd been together about two years. Larson brought her beau along to support her at numerous award shows, including the 2015 Oscars, at which she was recognized for her role in Room. She gave Greenwald, 39, a shout out in her acceptance speech, saying, "I love you."

Before taking the stage that night she told Entertainment Tonight, Greenwald was "the other half of the equation." Larson praised him as her "person, he's my best friend."

Despite this very public display, Larson and Greenwald were very private about their relationship. They are likely to keep the details surrounding their split private, too.
