I recently got a message from Jodi Meyerink Beach and she wanted us to spread the word on some local fundraising going on to help a youngster recently diagnosed with medical issues no parents want to hear! Here's the information from Jodi:

The next couple of months we are going to be having several events to help the Jenna and Chad Johnson Family from Brandon, South Dakota.

  • Ashley's Story:

On January 12th, 2015, the Johnson's took Ashley of Brandon, South Dakota, in to be checked because she was having symptoms that left her mom and dad worried. She was constantly fatigued, complained of neck stiffness, and had headaches. Blood tests came back that left them even more concerned. All of her blood counts were extremely low and her body wasn't producing bone marrow. That evening, their worst fear had been told to them. Ashley has leukemia.

Ashley endured many painful tests, blood transfusions, etc to find out her diagnosis: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). A 6 year old should not have to try to even understand or go through something like this. However, she must undergo chemotherapy. It will be a long and painful process, but with strength and support from her family and community, the outlook is hopeful.

Ashley (6) is a 1st grader at Robert Bennis Elementary in Brandon, SD. The Johnson's also have 3 other children, Caden (14), Tate (11), and Addison (8). Jenna has a daycare within their home, so her income is greatly affected by needing to be with Ashley. Chad works for Dakota Supply Group. Taking time off work is difficult for him as well. But like any family with such devastating news, they want and need to be by Ashley's side. They have a long journey ahead of them and can use any extra help. Going through something like this is not easy. It's hard to juggle work and school schedules, finances, medical bills, travel, etc.

No child should ever have to go through something like this and for the parents and family, it can be even more difficult. This is a very tight knit family that has a long road ahead of them. Please consider coming to the benefit, knowing you are making a huge impact and difference in Ashley's journey.
