Officials have now revealed the reason for closing down I-29 and re-routing traffic near Castlewood on Wednesday evening October 28, 2015 while South Dakota Highway Troopers conducted an investigation.

Shortly after conducting a traffic stop, a Highway Patrol officer heard a pop and saw his rear window in his vehicle had shattered.

Wednesday’s incident was reported at about 7:30 PM on Wednesday October 28, 2015.  A portion of the interstate was closed for several hours.

Authorities say there were no injuries and the public is in no danger. The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation continues to investigate.
