Big Year for One South Dakota Resident

My wife and I are fortunate to have many trees in our neighborhood and also lots of birds. So far we've identified over 30 species. That's without leaving the backyard.

However, one South Dakota man is setting out on a journey to identify 750 different species of birds.

Milbank resident Olaf Danielson hopes to join an elite group by traveling the world with other birders in the Big Year competition.

Danielson will start by driving to Texas. Then he will fly to Florida. His search will also take him to other states in the continental U.S., Canada and then hoping to spectacular and remote locations around the globe. By the way, Danielson is know as the Nude Birder.

The Big Year was also a 2011 movie starring Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson.
