Have you seen the big signs along I-229 warning of lane closures starting Wed? Well, the interstate is getting some work done near the 26th Street interchange. So, that’s going to mean a bit of a mess for Eastsiders getting on and off 229 there as well as slower traffic on 26th street around that area.

The work will be done in both the north and southbound lanes in an area between 18th Street and 26th Street. Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work area with a reduced speed limit of 55 mph and further reduced to 45 mph when workers are present.

Motorists can expect significant delays with traffic back-ups and may want to consider an alternate route during the construction. They should also be aware of suddenly slowing, stopped or merging traffic on the Interstate as well as construction equipment and workers adjacent to the flow of traffic.

The work is expected to be done by mid-August.
