The season is almost upon us as the Sioux Falls Canaries open the season on May 21, 2015 against the Sioux City Explorers. They play their first home game at Sioux Falls Stadium on May 24, 2015 against those same Explorers.

In the meantime, the grounds crew at the stadium is getting the field ready for action.

The Birdcage, as the stadium is affectionately referred to by local residents, was built in 1964 and seats over 4,400 fans.

Baseball was founded in Sioux Falls in 1902 when the original Canaries joined the Iowa-South Dakota League. The team existed on and off until 1971. The current Sioux Falls Canaries, members of the North Division of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball, was revived in 1993.
