Both the Sioux Falls Police Department and Sioux Falls Fire Rescue are hiring. The Sioux Falls Police Department is hiring new officers, and Sioux Falls Fire Rescue is looking for additional firefighters.

“The Sioux Falls Police Department strives to find the best candidates to become officers for our City. We have an excellent department and are looking for new officers that will continue to uphold the high standard and service we provide the community,” says Police Chief Doug Barthel.

Anyone who has an interest in law enforcement is encouraged to apply. The new officers will begin sometime early in 2015.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue is hiring firefighters to fill pending retirements. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue also recently began testing for staff to serve a new fire station set to open in the northwest part of Sioux Falls in spring 2015.

“When the city grows, our department grows with it. Fifteen new firefighters are in the process of being hired to meet the needs of the area, and additional staff members are needed to ensure we continue the level of service across the city that our residents deserve and expect,” says Fire Rescue Chief Jim Sideras.

The City of Sioux Falls is one of the top 10 largest employers in the city with 1,159 full-time employees spanning 12 different departments. About 40 percent of City employees are part of the Police Department or Fire Rescue.

Applications for the police officer positions are due by Monday, July 28. Applications for the firefighter positions are due by Monday, August 4. The hiring process for both positions starts by submitting an online application at http://my.siouxfalls.org prior to the deadline and then completing a civil service exam.
