South Dakotans are being reminded again that the shutdown of the federal government is not affecting state parks.

Governor Dennis Daugaard says the state parks and state hunting areas are open.

Of course, in our end of the state we have Good Earth State Park at Blood Run, Newton Hills State Park, Palisades State Park, Union Grove State Park and Lake Herman State Park, and that's just a few that are practically within shouting distance. So there are others--just don't get me started.

The Governor also points out that South Dakota does not have any state-run parks or recreation areas on federal lands, although the national wildlife refuges and waterfowl production areas are closed.

He also says the Game, Fish and Parks Department is not enforcing the closure of federal lands, but its officers will continue to conduct compliance checks for licenses and bag limits, as usual.

How long does all this last? I'm not sure even anyone in Washington knows that.
