On tonight’s episode of ‘American Idol’ (April 24), the remaining four contestants took on two songs each — a personal selection and a one-hit wonder — plus a duet.

Although it's getting down to the wire, the ladies seemed a little off their game tonight. A few of the performances were top-notch, but overall, they left judges Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj, Randy Jackson and Mariah Carey wanting more.

Here's the recap of tonight's episode:

ROUND ONE: PERSONAL CHOICES

Amber Holcomb: Her passionate rendition of Celine Dion’s ‘The Power of Love’ impressed all four panelists and proved that she’s come a long way from the beginning of the season. “If song choice is important – and it is, at this stage – that was an amazingly perfect song choice for you,” praised Urban. Jackson named Holcomb the contestant who has shown the most growth this season. “You came in as the baby, and you’re now a pro,” he said. Carey commented that she took a classic song and gave it flavor.

Candice Glover: She sang ‘Find Your Love’ by Drake, who just so happens to be one of her own personal idols, and received mixed reviews from the judges. Minaj thought her version of the song was a little old-fashioned. Jackson reminded her that she doesn’t have to use runs on every single line. But Carey remained in her corner. “This was risky, but you still did it,” she encouraged.

Kree Harrison: She delivered a soulful version of Susan Tedeschi’s ‘It Hurt So Bad,’ but it fell short of the judges’ expectations. “I don’t know if it’s the best vocal I’ve heard from you … I felt like parts of it were a little disconnected for me,” remarked Jackson. “That performance is not going to give you what you need for next week,” criticized Minaj. “I need you to get back to being Kreedom!”

Angie Miller: She performed Jessie J’s ‘Who You Are’ at the piano. “There’s no one that compares to you in this competition when you’re behind the piano,” Minaj pointed out. She called it a very “smart” and “exceptional” delivery. “You made me forget this was a Jessie J song,” said Jackson, who then went on to call her performance his favorite of the night so far. Carey enjoyed it as well, but also mentioned that she'd love to watch her perform an original song next time.

DUETS

Amber Holcomb + Kree Harrison: Their duet of Adele’s ‘Rumour Has It’ showcased Holcomb's confidence, as well as her ability to own the stage.

Angie Miller + Candice Glover: This dynamic duo performed Rihanna’s ‘Stay’ and received a standing O from the panelists. Jackson was very impressed and said that they were "on fire."

ROUND TWO: ONE-HIT WONDERS

Amber Holcomb: She knocked it out of the park with her delivery of Richard Harris/Donna Summer’s ‘MacArthur Park.’ “You’re dominating tonight, baby,” said Urban. “I thought that was an incredible performance.” Jackson praised her for “hitting those crystal clear high notes at the top of your range like you’re drinking a glass of water.” Carey said that she emanates an "inner glow" and a very real "star quality."

Candice Glover: Her one-hit wonder song choice was the Bee Gees’ ‘Emotion,’ originally recorded by Samantha Sang. “It’s a great song, and you took your time with it,” said Jackson. He went on to call it “Another great performance by you; the vocal is crazy.” Although they were supposed to be focused on giving Glover feedback, the judges went off on a tangent and proceeded to voice their disagreement with producer Jimmy Iovine’s remarks on Holcomb’s earlier rendition of ‘MacArthur Park.’ Eventually, Iovine appeared onstage to face the panel, where he stood his ground regarding his scathing review of Holcomb's performance, thus sparking a heated reaction from both Minaj and Jackson. All was well in the end, when Minaj and Iovine hugged it out. What's 'Idol' without a little drama, right?

Kree Harrison: Her version of Procol Harum’s ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ impressed some of the judges and disappointed others. “You redeemed yourself right there for me,” gushed Jackson. “You sang your face off; that was brilliant!” Minaj praised Harrison for her pretty, angelic voice, but also pointed out that she might wind up at the bottom thanks to tonight’s performances.

Angie Miller: She blew away the judges with her passionate rendition of Julie London’s ‘Cry Me a River.’ Carey complimented her clarity and range, and Keith called her performance “mystical and celestially powerful.” “Tonight was your night,” agreed Minaj. Jackson said that it was the best performance of the evening. "Angie wins the night, hands down!” he exclaimed.
