The alcohol ban that took effect earlier this month at VanEps Park and Tower Park in central Sioux Falls appears to be having an impact, but police say colder weather has also cut down on the number of calls and arrests.

Police Information Officer Sam Clemens says there has been a significant drop in calls from Van Eps Park since the ban took effect October 3rd:

Clemens says the drop in calls for service was not a surprise, since police expected colder weather would also have an effect. But he says they didn't expect the call volume would drop so fast, and he also says police don't know where people have gone now that they can't drink in the two parks.
