Once again our intrepid group of friends decided on a meeting place for dinner, drinks and conversation. The place shall remain anonymous and I'll explain why.

Thursday, when we were discussing the location we had chosen, someone (who will also remain anonymous) said they had heard the food was sub-par and so was the service.

The service was very good. We had two lovely young ladies who were very attentive and helpful. For example, when two of our group were trying to decide whether to order the Chicken Parmigiana, our server told them that she would stick with the bar food "because I know they're really good with that!"

So of course they ordered the chicken and I turned to my friend Tammy halfway through hers and asked how it was. Her response?

"Well, I wouldn't order it again."

My turkey sandwich was - um - dry. I mean dry as the Sahara-dry!

I forgot to ask Kim, but she left quite a bit of it, so I'm guessing her response may have been similar. Karla and Beth had no complaints and we did love the cheese balls.

My turkey sandwich was - um - dry. I mean dry as the Sahara-dry! But with the addition of tomatoes borrowed from Karla's burger toppings, some requested mayo, and a Blue Moon tap the size of a Volkswagen Beetle, I ate it and my lukewarm fries, without incident.

Food issues aside, the conversation is always the highlight of these evenings and last night didn't disappoint. We were discussing some of the weird crimes that have occurred in Sioux Falls and I learned that all of us have had semi-scary experiences at home while we've been alone. Interestingly enough, the way we've dealt with these situations differs greatly.

Beth has her little barker Bouncer and an armed husband. Kim and I have our large dogs. My two German Shepherds are crazy protective killers and no one in their right mind would take them on. And, I have no doubt that anyone trying to burglarize Tammy or Karla's homes would be met with a baseball bat and a junk punch - from Tammy and Karla! They really don't suffer idiots.

Yes, I do have a large number of wonderful women in my life and those ladies (and I use that term loosely) are but four, of the smartest, funniest, hardest working chicks I know.
