The Sioux Falls City Council sorted through amendments for the annual budget Tuesday (September 15) night.

The Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum received approval for $85,000; a distracted driving campaign for $50,000, a city property sales tax increase of $800,000 annually went forward and the total budget of $471 million was approved.

The mosaic wall next to the river downtown was discussed and the agreement was made to spend $10,000 annually to maintain the wall.

The mosaic art is a concern of some residents, who say it is not properly maintained.

Michelle Erppenbach proposed the funding to ensure the artwork is properly cared for.

Councilor Christine Erickson says this process has been a lesson to understand the responsibility to care for gifts to the city in the future.

The gift of the mosaic wall was presented by the children of the city of Sioux Falls.
