There have been alot of upsets in sports history! The New York Giants beat the New England Patriots to end their undefeated season in Super Bowl XLII. Appalachian State’s 34-32 upset of the #5 Michigan Wolverines in 2007. Or how about in 1990 when Buster Douglas took down Mike Tyson. Douglas was a 42-to-1 shot to win the match, but all it took was a single shot.

But on February 22, 1980, the United States Olympic hockey team pulled off one of the greatest upsets of all time! Halfway through  the 3rd period, Team USA took the lead 4-3 with exactly 10 minutes left and held on for the win!

As the team ran all over the ice in celebration, head coach Herb Brooks sprinted back to the locker room and cried. In the locker room afterwards, players spontaneously broke into a chorus of "God Bless America". I still get chills hearing that historical call from Al Michaels, which was only his 2nd hockey game he ever broadcast.Team USA went on to win the gold medal by winning its last match over Finland and the rest they say…IS HISTORY!
