Minnehaha County authorities are investigating a hit-and-run near Crooks that killed three horses early Saturday.

The Sheriff's office says the horses escaped from a fenced area and were on the roadway on 469th Avenue, just north of Willow Creek Street when they were struck by what authorities believe was a pickup truck or SUV.

The driver left the scene without reporting the crash, but Sheriff's Captain James Hoekman says investigators recovered two chrome side mirrors from the vehicle, along with some broken glass from a side window.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Sheriff's office or Crimestoppers at 1-800-367-7007.
