Adele and Taylor Swift will go head-to-head in the at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards, as both were nominated in the Best Original Song in Motion Picture category.

The nominations for the 70th annual awards show were announced this morning at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Swift received a nod for her haunting 'Hunger Games' track, 'Safe and Sound,' while Adele was nominated for her 'Skyfall' theme song of the same name.

The news came as a true gift, as Swift celebrates her 23rd birthday today. She tweeted, "Best birthday surprise EVER-just found out that Safe&Sound is nominated for a GOLDEN GLOBE!! Thank you @goldenglobes and HFPA! #hungergames."

Keith Urban is also vying for the honor with his 'Act of Valor' end-credits song 'For You,' while the songs 'Not Running Anymore' from 'Stand Up Guys' and 'Suddenly' from the soon-to-be-released movie adaptation of 'Les Miserables' are up for the award, too.

Although both Swift and Adele have won numerous awards -- including six and eight Grammys, respectively -- this is a huge moment for both stars. Today marks the first Golden Globe nomination for each of the popular singers, who could very well be up for Oscar nominations next year, as well.

The nominees were introduced this morning by Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Aida Takla-O’Reilly, along with Jessica Alba, Megan Fox and Ed Helms. The show, hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, will air on Jan. 13 on NBC.
